The C-2 Flying Vest was a lightweight knitted zip front sweater designed for layering beneath underneath flight clothing for an added layer of insulation, described as
"For wear with winter flying suit only. Sweater-type vest made of olive drab worsted yarns. Raglan sleeves with rib knit cuffs. Rib knit vee type collar. Tubular rib knit waistband. Interlocking slide fastener."
Regulated as standard issue in June 1934 to all flight personnel and becoming graded obsolete by 1946 very few originals of these remain, simply being worn to tatters.
Pike Brothers have reproduced this 'vest' to a high standard, made from 100% fine tightly woven merino wool which has the same uneven fleck running through the weave as per originals and features a raglan sleeve construction reducing the amount of seams around the shoulders for comfort and ease of motion, single lower left patch pocket and rib-knitted cuffs and waistband, finished off with a woven spec label and 'Talon' zipper, these are a fine piece of kit perfect for layering.
