Standardized for issue on the 9th May 1931 the A-2 flight jacket was issued to every AAF airmen and produced by many different manufacturers with variations to each contact
Star Sportswear Mfg Co. of Lynn Massachusetts was founded in 1918 and was a prolific manufacturer of military jackets for the U.S armed forces right up until the 1980's, though this was their only contract for an A-2 in 1942. The fit of the Star Sportswear contract is very comfortable to wear, with a simple non-collar stand construction and low cut front to the neck making the collar lay flatter to the body and stay out of the way. Like the Monarch this contract has a rotated inset sleeve allowing for excellent range of movement. Though the Star Sportswear has a reasonably slim fit around the torso the back panel is cut slightly wider across the shoulder than the front, keeping a smart fit and allowing for more room and movement.
Skillfully reproduced to emulate every detail of the Star Sportswear 28557 contract Eastman has sourced all the correct components to make this jacket as authentic as possible. Made in their superb 100% veg-tanned seal Italian horsehide know as War Horse this jacket has the right weight a feel to it, stitched together with heavy 3-ply 'Havana Brown' cotton thread as per the originals and finished with the period correct hardware and inspectors stamps. In a side by side comparison to an mint condition original you be hard pressed to tell them apart.
