Introduced in 1967 as a slimmer “student” jean they were aimed at a younger market, they had a closer cut, with a slimmer straight leg than the 501, mid-rise with a fitted waist and seat and a zip fly.
The biggest change for Levis with the 505 was that it was only the second of their jeans to use sanforized (pre-shrunk) cotton for its denim, meaning no shrink to fit faffing about in the bath, the appeal was obvious, and still is today.
