An item of clothing that has become ubiquitous with cool, famously worn by Paul Newman, James Dean and many post-war hot-rodders, it was originally issued to U.S Navy personnel from 1944 and remained in service being issued until the 60’s. The N-1 was a jacket evolved for harsh winter conditions at sea, the heavy windproof and water resistant outer shell and woven wool lining made it warm and durable and the uncomplicated design secured it as a favourite among servicemen and motor-heads alike. Pike Bros have recreated the tightly woven, double-faced Bedford chord shell, known as Jungle cloth, and waxed it for added and improved water resistance. The soft woven wool lining will keep you warm and is comfortable against the skin even in a t-shirt. The button front closure conceals a replica 1940’s talon zip and hidden knitted ‘storm cuffs’ keeps the wind out. One feature of these jackets, which is an improvement on the originals, is the inclusion of an internal pocket perfect for a small notebook, phone or shore leave pass.
These jackets come without USN stencilled on the left chest as per originals Pike Bros include a cardboard ‘do it yourself’ stencil with instructions.
